TypingTime

TypingTime Twitch / Discord emote

Meaning

TypingTime is used to indicate that someone is currently typing a message or response in chat. It's often used humorously to show that chatters are preparing long messages, copypastas, or thoughtful responses. The emote can also be used sarcastically to mock someone who is taking too long to type a response, or to signal that chat is about to flood with messages.

Origin

TypingTime is a BetterTTV (BTTV) emote that was added to the platform around 2017-2018. The emote features a simple black silhouette of a keyboard or typing hands, representing someone actively typing on a keyboard. It became popular as a way to indicate that someone in chat is typing a response or message, similar to the "typing..." indicator seen in messaging apps.

When to use

Common usage scenarios include: when a streamer asks chat a question and viewers spam TypingTime to show they're preparing responses; when someone is clearly typing a long message or copypasta; during debates or arguments in chat when people are crafting their replies; or ironically when chat goes silent and someone uses it to joke that everyone is typing. It's also frequently used before chat floods with spam or when chatters coordinate to post something simultaneously.
