WideHard

WideHard Twitch / Discord emote

Meaning

WideHard is used similarly to TriHard but with added emphasis and exaggeration. The emote generally expresses:

  • Excitement or hype - particularly for intense or exciting moments
  • Trying hard or going hard - when someone is putting in maximum effort
  • Intensity - amplifying reactions to gameplay or stream moments
  • Comedic exaggeration - the stretched format adds humor to situations

The widened format makes it a more dramatic and humorous version of the original TriHard emote, often used when regular TriHard doesn't convey enough intensity.

Origin

WideHard originates from the TriHard emote, which features Twitch streamer Mychal "Trihex" Jefferson. The original TriHard emote was added to Twitch's global emote library around 2012-2014 and became one of the platform's most recognizable emotes.

WideHard is a stretched, widened variation of the TriHard emote, created as part of the "wide emote" trend that became popular in the late 2010s. This variation was uploaded to FrankerFaceZ (FFZ) and BetterTTV (BTTV) around 2017-2018, where users could add custom emote variations. The "wide" format became a meme trend where popular emotes were horizontally stretched for comedic effect.

When to use

WideHard is commonly used in these situations:

  • Gaming clutch moments - when a streamer is intensely focused or making a comeback
  • Hype moments - exciting plays, wins, or achievements
  • Rap or hip-hop music - particularly during bass drops or intense beats
  • "Going hard" situations - when someone is putting in maximum effort at anything
  • Meme spam - part of emote spam chains for comedic effect
  • Competitive moments - during tryhard gameplay or serious attempts

The emote maintains the cultural context of TriHard while adding a layer of ironic exaggeration through its stretched appearance.
